NYU Department of Physics- American Physical Society s Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics Conference

Abstract

Every year the American Physical Society (APS) sponsors a series of regional Conferences for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP). Across the country, these conferences occur simultaneously at a number of regional hosts that are approved by APS. New York University had a successful application to be one of the regional hosts for the January 2025 conferences. As a host, it is NYU s responsibility to advertise the conference, invite and arrange the speakers, create the agenda of events, and provide housing and meals for all conference participants. This proposal requests funds for the hotel costs to house the participants. The goal of APS s CU*iP program is to help undergraduate women continue in physics by providing them with the opportunity to experience a professional conference in the field, as well as get information about different graduate programs and career opportunities for undergraduate degree holders. Speakers will share their experience, advice, and ideas. This conference facilitates the building of relationships and networks for women studying in the field that will carry on in their future endeavors. Many of these people will continue in research of fundamental physics, which is related to the goals of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, specifically in the area of physical sciences.
