Experimental Investigation of Multifunctional Metamaterials for Drag Reduction

Abstract

This study will focus on controlling transition via Tollmien-Schlichting (T-S) waves in their linear regime. A multi-input and multi-output phononic subsurface (MIMO PSub) will interact with T-S waves to dampen instabilities. Two types of MIMO PSub, utilizing elastic and acoustic concepts, will be employed to enhance transition delay strategies under various conditions. The ex-periments will be conducted in solid wall and anechoic environments, allowing for comprehensive characterization of T-S wave behavior. By combining advanced optical tools, numerical simulations, and stability analysis, we aim to analyze flow-phononic interactions over time and optimize control strategies.
