Strengthening Health Lab Systems

Abstract

Laos World Heath Organization (WHO) has been collaborating with Lao PDR on public health since early 1950s. Recent years, WHO, in collaboration with other partners, has been supporting the country to implement the National EID and PHE plan to build surveillance, laboratory and response capacities, as required by the IHR (2005), including support to Laos to develop laboratory policy, strategies, action plans and public health laboratory diagnosis capacities as well as the Laos FET program. WHO has also established a good relationship with Ministry of Health (MoH), and has been acknowledged as a trusted and reliable partner to the country. WHO’s convening role, with its effective network, makes it unique in its ability to collaborate and coordinate with stakeholders/partners to support country capacity building. Thus, WHO is in a unique position to support Lao PDR to meet its requirements to develop IHR core capacities and contribute to global health security.
