Coinfection with Rift Valley fever virus Brucella spp and Coxiella burnetii in humans and animals in Kenya

Abstract

The project will be led by the International Livestock Research Institute and will involve the Department of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Health, Zoonotic Disease Unit, Kenya Wildlife Services, Kenya Medical Research Institute and University of Nairobi. Los Alamos National Lab will participate as an international partner to support molecular analyses and phylogenetic analyses. The study will define the burden and ecological factors associated with cohabitation of EDPs in remote areas of Africa, and build capacity on disease surveillance, molecular screening and phylogenetic analysis of these pathogens and biosafety and biosecurity practices.
