Strengthening Capabilities for Epidemiology and Biosurveillance

Abstract

This project will (among others) take a holistic approach, including other organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and support strengthening of biosurveillance activities in African countries working together with WHO and the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). Surveillance systems in Africa will be reviewed regarding their strengths, gaps and opportunities to improve surveillance data-sharing between countries, WHO country offices, WHO regional offices, WHO headquarters, and Africa CDC. The requirements for an electronic platform that can facilitate the sharing of information between the stakeholders noted above will be defined. These will include technical (IT) aspects as well as data-sharing principles and policies.
