A Combined Experimental, Theoretical And Computational Approach To The Interaction Of Prompt X-Rays With Solar Panels

Abstract

This proposal provides quantitative measurements of the plasma ablated from the surface of solar panel materials by bursts of soft ‘prompt’ X-ray radiation, such as that expected from high altitude/exo-atmospheric nuclear detonations. These measurements will underpin the use of different models of the plasma properties in these conditions, and the models will then be utilised as the basis for high resolution simulations of solar panels.
