Seroprevalence of Q fever and molecular characterization of circulating pathogens

Abstract

This study proposes to gather baseline data on disease prevalence and associated risk factors in selected pastoral areas that can be used to inform and develop an effective prevention and control strategy. A cross-sectional study will be conducted in selected pastoral areas of Oromia, Afar, and Somali,as well as abattoirs in Addis Ababa. A two-stage cluster sampling design will be used to sample 7,940 ruminants from three regional states and 1,536 ruminants from Addis Ababa municipality abattoirs. Samples will be tested for C. burnetii by qPCR and positive samples will be genotyped by multi-spacer typing. Serum samples will be assessed for antibodies against C. burnetii.
