Watchmaker
Abstract
Established in 2015, Watchmaker is a global platform that enables INTERPOL to identify and track known or suspected individuals involved in chemical and explosives crimes, the devices they use to perpetrate attacks, as well as the sources and means utilised by nefarious actors to construct and deploy these weapons. In close collaboration with and supported by the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency, INTERPOL proposes to implement Watchmaker activities under the umbrella of the INTERPOL’s Chemical and Explosives Terrorism Prevention Programme (the CHEMEX Programme). The proposed lines of effort aim to increase intelligence sharing in the Southeast Asia region, reinforce the work of Watchmaker as well as develop and implement in-country engagement in line with the CHEMEX Programme’s five-step framework. These lines of efforts will build on the solid foundations and already established regional networks that have grown out of previous Watchmaker Working Groups conducted by INTERPOL.
