Global Congress

Abstract

The Global Congress on Chemical Security & Emerging Threats (“Global Congress” hereafter) is an international network of experts who work together to address the threat of chemical and explosives terrorism. Its members – chemical security experts – share best practices and explore innovative ways to counter the threats. The collaborative nature of this network drives mutual assistance and concerted action between its members and across domains of expertise. Launched in 2018, the Global Congress is jointly led by INTERPOL, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and is implemented in cooperation with the G7 Global Partnership against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction. The Global Congress receives additional support from Global Affairs Canada and the US Department of State. Under the umbrella of INTERPOL’s Chemical and Explosives Terrorism Prevention (CHEMEX) Programme, INTERPOL is proposing to support and execute Global Congress activities over a five-year period in order to ensure long-term impact and sustainability. Supported by the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency and in close collaboration with the other co-implementing agencies, INTERPOL will implement a wide range of activities aimed at operationalizing and broadening the scope of the Global Congress Network.
