Developing a novel data acquisition and analysis platform to evaluate applications

Abstract

Innovative research and technologies are rapidly uncovering roles for biofilms in a variety of fields, yielding potentially novel applications of microorganisms to enhance military offensive and defensive capabilities. Innovation Scientists LLC will use a novel advanced evidence-based landscaping data analysis tool called the Robotic Ecosystem Metasynthesis (REM) platform to mine, aggregate and model mutli-modal datasets and assess if biofilms could be modified for use as a countermeasure against weapons of mass destruction (C-WMD). For this proposal, we will customize the Robotic Ecosystem Metasynthesis platform to assess ·siofilms as a C-WMo· as a case study to demonstrate impact, in alignment with the Superbiological Materials Program s strategic goals and relevant to DTRA Thrust Area 7. Primary objectives will be to customize the the Robotic Ecosystem Metasynthesis platform for DTRA that (1) automate advanced data analysis on biofilms research, technologies, and market drivers to help identify emerging applications; (2) demonstrate effectiveness of a visual and interactive roadmapping tool that will provide recommendations for investment in biofilms related research ecosystems, and (3) critically evaluate the proposed methodologies for potential future use cases in other topic areas of interest to DTRA.
