Indian River Strategies for Success

Abstract

Indian River Strategies for Success will increase social-emotional supports and improve academic outcomes for high-risk military dependent students in academic outcomes for high-risk military dependent students in grades 4-12. Support strategies including counseling, parent/community engagement and behavior management programming with direct services provided by a licensed social worker, home/school coordinator and substance abuse counselor contracted through expert community-based organizations, and school-wide implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework and social-behavioral education programs. Academic strategies encompass targeted tutoring and after-school enrichment. Anticipated outcomes include a reduction in chronic absenteeism and disciplinary referrals, and improved grades for highest risk students. Professional development will be key to project success.
