STAR Reading
Abstract
Lawton Public Schools have over 4,100 high school students, 31.7% of them are military connected. These students test at the 70th percentile nationally on STAR Reading assessments. Our grant will raise the average percentile rank of these students by 11% over 5 years. This will be achieved by providing/implementing: 1) the "Literacy First Framework" and "STAR 360 Assessment tools" in ALL classrooms, 2) "Reading Plus" in language arts classrooms and after-school programming, 3) students with much needed after-school tutoring, and 4) Professional Learning Communities to share best practices, evaluate data and progress toward our intended goals.
