Empowering Groton's Military Students for College and Career Readiness through Engaging Math Instruction

Abstract

Groton Public Schools (GPS) has identified the need for improved practices in math, including a greater emphasis on conceptual understanding, to increase comprehension among GPS military dependent students. This is especially important as student’s transition from elementary to secondary schools. To accomplish this goal, Groton’s teachers in grades 3-12 will take part in an embedded professional development program in math instruction. By focusing on algebraic concepts, this program will integrate CCR practice standards, and increase the likelihood of post-school employment opportunities.
