Abstract

Richland School District Two in Columbia, SC proposes the Promising Pathways for Dent Middle School project that serves 1,194 students. This comprehensive project has two clear goals: 1) Increase academic outcomes of military dependent middle school students in math. 2) Increase the level of social-emotional supports for military dependent students. The project employs only research-based instructional strategies that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving achievement. Professional development in math and AVID will be offered. Tutoring in the afterschool program and virtual learning are key strategies. Military-connected students will also receive supportive social-emotional assistance through specialized counseling, peer support, and mentoring.
