Monterey Peninsula Unified School District College and Career Math Success Initiative
Abstract
Monterey Peninsula USD will prepare military-dependent students to be college/career ready by focusing on conceptual understanding in math and STEM. Students in grades 6-10 will enroll in Elevate [Math], a research-validated pre-teaching summer program developed by the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. At grades TK-5, students will participate in weekly STEM lessons and a full school STEM event. An elementary and a secondary Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) will be trained in instructional strategies and coaching. These TOSAs will provide in-classroom professional development and coach teachers. The HS/MS TOSA will facilitate after-school tutoring. The elementary TOSA will provide Saturday STEM Academies.
