Project Navigate: Navigating the Literacy Course to College & Career Readiness
Abstract
Project Navigate will improve literacy and writing achievement of Vernon Parish elementary military-dependent students to prepare for college and career success. Key components for literacy improvement include building the capacity of K-2 teachers to teach fundamental literacy skills through coaching and professional development and the implementation of a new RTI reading curriculum. An intense summer literacy program will provide tutoring to prevent summer slide, and parent engagement activities will be included to promote at-home and after school learning and training. Improved writing achievement will be attained through professional development and implementation of a new daily writing curriculum for grades K-3.
