Military-Connected Local Educational Agencies for Academic and Support Programs (MCASP)
Abstract
Lawton Public Schools has over 7,600 elementary students: 30.0% are military connected. These students test below the 42nd percentile nationally on STAR Reading assessments. Our grant, "A Firm Foundation" Ensuring College and Career Readiness through Reading, will raise students average reading percentile rank by 10% over 5 years. This will be achieved by providing/implementing: 1) the "Literacy First Framework" and "ST AR360 Assessment tools" in ALL classrooms, 2) "ReadingPlus" and "USATest Prep" in ELA classrooms, in after-school programs, and with at-home access, 3) after-school tutoring, and 4) Professional Learning Communities to share best practices, evaluate data, and meet our intended goals.
