Placing STEM Futures in Students Hands
Abstract
The purpose of this award is to provide funds for a 5 year grant to Mascoutah Community Unit School District #19 to provide military connected kindergarten through fifth grade students with a broader Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) educational experience through a curriculum that is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This project for students attending three elementary schools (including one serving 99% military connected students) will have the effect of increasing their ability to implement STEM activities such as science units that include light and sound in first grade or computer systems input/output in fourth grade. The project will be sustained by identifying Launch Lead Teachers who will be district teacher leaders responsible for conducting ongoing training and supporting their peers.
