HOKE Helping Our Kids Explore Diversity in STEM
Abstract
The STEM project objectives include increasing academic performance in math and science in grades 4-12 in 10 schools at Hoke County, NC. The goals incorporate extracurricular activities, such as in-school and off-campus field trips, after-school clubs and explorations, on-site summer camps and off-site residential summer experiences, and in-class curriculum and instruction, such as PBL, engineering, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Through consistent professional learning, science and math teachers will be equipped to design and implement engaging PBL units incorporating engineering and rigorous science and mathematics instruction, ultimately impacting military-connected and identified subgroups’ performance, interest, and enrollment in higher-level STEM-related courses and fields.
