Improving STEM Capacity at Sonoran Science Academy Davis-Monthan Add Attachments

Abstract

Project seeks to improve Sonoran Science Academy Davis-Monthan (SSA D-M) math and science/engineering proficiency for 6-11th grade students. Math targets include a 7% increase for 6-11th grade students. Science/Engineering targets include a 15% increase for 8- 10th grade students. To accomplish this, SSA D-M will leverage current curricula and assessments (Eureka, i-Ready, Galileo, etc.) by 1) incorporating extracurricular math and science/engineering activities; 2) implementing in-class Project-Based Learning; 3) providing technology support; and 4) embedding educator Professional Learning to ensure that these mechanisms are utilized fully. These strategies are expected to impact student proficiency scores by engaging all SSA D-M students, particularly military-connected students, in deeper learning opportunities and experiences. Educators will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively teach next generation math and science/engineering curriculum and maximize the current curricular and technological tools at their disposal.
