An Integrated Approach to College and Career Readiness Skills through PBL, STEM, and a Multi- Tiered System of Supports

Abstract

Poquoson Schools serve a military-rich population of students. Both the Peninsula Council for Workplace Development and PCPS alumni feedback underscore the need to prepare graduates to be proficient in the 21st century skills needed for college and career success. Students will develop these skills by participating in STEM and PBL activities, which incorporate the Virginia Standards of Learning, and through increased access to instructional technology. While the current STEM grant emphasizes the use of tiered interventions to support student learning, this grant will expand on these efforts to target the intentional development of a formal framework to support learning outcomes and to address identified achievement barriers. Research supports the integration of multi-tiered systems of supports and college and career readiness. Funding for this grant will ensure that our military-connected students will benefit from a sustainable model of project based learning and STEM as supported by a tiered system of supports.
