Learning Together Growing Leaders Through STEM

Abstract

Military-connected children and youth are clearly at-risk for social, emotional and behavioral health concerns. Multiple deployments, mobility, family separations, and the fear of the unknown place these students in schools that may not be well-equipped to address the special academic and social/emotional needs of military children. The Learning Together, Leaders through STEM Programs will integrate the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Model (WSCC) developed by ASCD and the CDC to support a systematic, integrated and collaborative approach to health and learning to increase science academic achievement of 521 Borman students necessary for post-secondary engagement leading to STEM career fields. The formation of collaborative Leadership Teams comprised of students, staff, families, and community members will create an environment that emphasizes the importance of each student being healthy, safe, engaged, and challenged and create technology, learning and health supports that are needed for military-connected youth to achieve academically.
