Making Sense of Mathematics and Teaching in O Fallon CCSD 90 aims to deepen kindergarten through eighth military connected students understanding of mathematics
Abstract
Making Sense of Mathematics and Teaching in O’Fallon CCSD #90 aims to deepen kindergarten through eight military-connected students’ understanding of mathematics. A needs assessment revealed a drop in student achievement in mathematics between third and eighth grade, particularly the achievement of military connected students. Students in O’Fallon Community Consolidated School District 90, O’Fallon, Illinois, and particularly military-connected students of parents serving Scott Air Force Base, will benefit from improved problem-based instruction designed to increase student achievement in mathematics. Students will utilize technology tools and software designed to support mathematics in real-world context. The intended outcome of the four-year implementation period of this projects is to increase the mathematics proficiency for military connected students by 8 percentage points.
