The Connection Project: Connecting Classrooms to the World; Students to Success
Abstract
The Connection Project: Connecting Classrooms to the World; Students to Success (The Connection Project) will strengthen and expand Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs in our District to assure all students and especially military connected ones are engaged in these key academic areas. Creating a link between College and Career Readiness (CCR), STEM and computer science/computational thinking provides the foundation for student success as they transition from elementary to middle to high school. The project will serve the military-connected children and families of the Fort Riley Army Base, a significant part of Geary County Schools USD 475 (USD 475), which includes: 14 elementary schools (five located on Post), two middle schools (one located on Post), and the Junction City High School. USD 475 is a unique District in that all the schools in the District serve military connected children. This project will build upon the successes of past STEM projects funded by DoDEA. Our District s motto, "Learning for All, Whatever It Takes," is reflected in each goal chosen for The Connection Project. USO 475 has designed specific strategies that work as interrelated and interdependent parts of the overall approach to achieve the two goals of this project. The strategies will provide the support necessary to propel our military-connected students to CCR and STEM achievements.
