Ala hele - Pathways to Strengthening the STEM Pipeline
Abstract
Hawaii Department of Education-Leeward District: Campbell-Kapolei Complex Schools provides STEM education for military-connected students to continue demonstrating growth in science proficiency that leads to college and career readiness given higher NGSS performance expectations, Campbell-Kapolei targeted schools must provide pathways across the K-12 continuum that enhance PLTW by increasing both science academic achievement and STEM student engagement. As part of Ala hele – Pathways to Strengthening the STEM Pipeline, Campbell Kapolei Complex plans to enhance in-class curriculum and instruction support by integrating NGSS with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and Discover Education Science Techbook™ (DE Techbook) for NGSS. Response to Intervention (RTI) will serve to strengthen in-class instruction and provide military-connected students with intervention as necessary. Military-connected students at targeted schools will also have opportunities to utilize technology in-class to support problem-based learning, as well as participate in expanded after-school extracurricular activities to spark interest in STEM-related careers.
