Abstract

In USD 383, a northeastern Kansas site with six participating schools, Discover STEM: Classrooms to Careers (D-STEM) will increase the percentage of military-connected elementary students (grades 3-6) who achieve Levels 3 and 4 on the math and science state assessment during the grant cycle. Our three interdisciplinary D-STEM strategies include: 1) In-class and out of school curriculum and instructional support. We will outline steps in Project Lead the Way (PLTW), multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and individual plans of study (IPS). 2) In-class and out of school time technology support. We will outline steps for K-4 tools aligned to our local needs, classroom tools to engage students for next-generation phenomenon, STEM mentors/buddies networks. 3) Extracurricular and out of school time activities. We will outline steps for after school STEM clubs for students, Summer STEM Institute for students and Family STEM Events.
