Redesigning Math Pathways to Ensure Military Connected Student Success and College Readiness

Abstract

Sierra Sands USD’s project “Redesigning Math Pathways to Ensure Military Connected Student Success and College Readiness” provides in depth analysis of 6th-12th grade math courses and pathways (standards aligned scope and sequence) by looking at curriculum and pacing, coupled with intensive professional development (coaching and intensive summer training) in order to develop an inquiry based, standards-aligned, and math-practice-focused grade 6-12 mathematics program that promotes equitability and acceleration for all students with specific emphasis on the military connected student. Partnerships with NAWS and NAWCWD STEM personnel and resources will allow us to deepen and enhance teacher and student learning, provide a strong core math program, and offer advanced mathematics and computer science related opportunities for military connected students.
