MAP Mathematical Applications Project

Abstract

Mathematical Applications Project Grant Concentrates on improving the College and Career Readiness outcomes of military-connected students in math. Instruction in math classes will focus on application-based problems, and real-world classroom experiences will align with College and Career Readiness standards in 2nd grade and 5th grade. Improving students’ math readiness levels will occur through increasing teacher content knowledge, promoting the use of best practice instructional strategies, and providing instructional math coaches. Professional development and instructional math support in Professional Learning Community meetings will reinforce desired changes in the classroom. Strong number sense and foundational skills acquired through elementary math courses are essential for student’ success in STEM-related courses. Students’ success at an early age in STEM-related activities will prepare more students for STEM college courses and careers.
