Future Knights

Abstract

Copenhagen Central School District will enact Future Knights by addressing the career and college readiness needs of military-dependent students via direct in-class curriculum and instructional supports, extracurricular STEM activities and virtual classes. Student progress will be tracked using valid, reliable measures of achievement that include all 24 performance indicators of the 2016 ISTE Standards and using the NYS Grades 3-8 Test in Mathematics. Strategies include: a) flooding intervention/enrichment instructional blocks with personalized virtual classes for all military-dependent children using research based programs such as Khan Academy, Learn Zillions and Code, b) embedding in class curriculum and instructional support via an instructional technology coach for all stakeholders to ensure students creatively, competently and confidently engage with technology and c) by offering extracurricular STEM challenges and STEM clubs, including a student broadcast studio bringing college and career ready skills such as as communication, collaboration, time management and technological competency to life
