Bishop Public School Grant
Abstract
Bishop Back on Track will serve 159 military-dependent students who attend a K-6 elementary school in rural southwest Oklahoma. The project will have the objectives of promoting student achievement in science, expanding learning opportunities, and implementing multi-tiered systems of support for transitioning military-connected students. It will also put students on the early path of being prepared for the future workforce through a unique application of health sciences that are tied to STEAM components and engaging technologies. The first goal will be to increase achievement on state science proficiency assessments through professional development, increased exposure to science education through an afterschool science academy, and proven technology-based learning opportunities. The second goal will be to increase the number of students graduating from 6th grade with a 3.5 grade point average or higher in STEAM subjects. Strategies for the second goal will include in-class application of healthy physical and mindful wellness activities, multi-tiered systems of support, increased access to online learning opportunities, and work-based learning activities. The long-term outcome of the project is an increased number of military-dependent students who excel through high school and beyond both academically and in real-life situations.
