Anne Arundel Grant
Abstract
Meade Virtual Connect is a five-year initiative of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools to create a virtual online community for 2,013 military-connected students in six schools on the Fort George G. Meade - The Nation s Platform for Intelligence, Information, and Cyber Operations to 1) increase access to rigorous STEAM course work, college courses, and digital classrooms; 2) increase enrollment in CompTIA A+ workforce development certification, experiential learning opportunities, IT Help Desk business experience, mentorships, and internships to encourage post-secondary career planning; and 3) increase STEAM online cocurricular clubs, camps, competitions, and games for PreK-12 students. The project will create large-scale student interaction using virtual and hybrid learning platforms and strategies built on a variety of delivery methods - webinars, podcasts, twitter book study groups, online conferences among others. The virtual community will provide wider participation by students and families with online opportunities rarely available to most students due to barriers of awareness, time, transportation, or cost. Program leaders from district AP, International Baccalaureate-Middle Years and Diploma Programs, STEM, and Signature (Homeland Security) among other programs will create a pipeline framework, integrate existing resources, design co-curriculars, modules, and camps (both virtual and hybrid), and design and implement professional learning for teachers. Student outcomes are expected to raise high school enrollment and completion in rigorous STEAM courses, participation in mentorships and internships, and access to co-curricular and digital classrooms for students at all levels. Meade Virtual Connect is a vibrant student-friendly living community free of barriers for all students
