Military-Connected Student Excellence in Health Sciences
Abstract
The North Kitsap School District (NKSD), located in Kitsap County, WA and serving Naval Base Kitsap, intends to prepare all students for Careers in the STEAM and Health Science pathways, with an emphasis on the needs of our military-connected students. Our direct service strategy is to equip students with the cognitive strategies, skills and outlooks that lead to successful postsecondary engagement and subsequently, careers in high-demand STEAM and health science careers. This approach builds on the success of two DoDEA grants focused on science content knowledge. Since the top five industries in Kitsap County are all STEAM related, the secondary strategy is to build STEAM and Health Sciences career pathways. Based on data, the current focus for alignment to careers of the present and future will offer students multiple access points to the STEAM curriculum with an emphasis on Health Sciences.
