Creating Career Pathways Project (CCPP)

Abstract

O’Fallon Township High School (OTHS) military-connected students have a demonstrable interest in Career & Technical Education (CTE). The St. Louis region and the State of Illinois have outlined the needs for CTE career preparation. While three strands of CTE courses exist at the high school, there is not a clear pathway for a military-connected student to a CTE career; students cannot gain valuable certifications to prepare them for college or careers after they graduate from high school. The DoDEA MCASP project, Creating Career Pathways Project (CCPP) will (1) capitalize on military-connected student CTE interest, (2) develop 10 CTE Academies or Career Preparatory Pathways that provide students with direction toward college and career opportunities in STEAM, and (3) give students the opportunity to complete certifications in fields that range from digital marketing and AutoCAD to welding and solar energy. Each program strand will involve several project-based activities (e.g., building Micro-Homes) that will result in 75% (or more) of the enrolled military-connected students achieving a CTE Certification. The program will be sustained through the sale of Micro-Homes, and district funding.
