Abstract

Hillsborough County is economically, ethnically, and linguistically diverse, with 30% of families speaking a language other than English. Serving families in this region is Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS), the seventh largest school district in the nation. Within the confines of the county lies MacDill Air Force Base. MacDill includes 28 associate units from all branches of service. As such, 89% of district schools have at least one military-connected family. HCPS has identified a group of schools that comprise a feeder pattern and combined, serve the highest number of military-connected students of any geographic region in HCPS. Drawing from research on the benefits of a “regional model” that leverages collaboration and cross-school collaboration to increase student success
