Identify and Amplify
Abstract
Sigsbee Charter (SCS), a K to 8 school located at Naval Air Station Key West, has a mission focused on meeting the unique needs of the military child, 47 percents of the school population. Counseling referrals indicate a pronounced need for social services among military connected students and families. Identify and Amplify provides a site based social worker to build capacity in the K to 8 military connected population and to create a multi tiered support system for students needing emotional and behavioral intervention. At the same time, state assessment data indicate that 54.7 percents of SCS students in grades 6 to 8 did not meet the expected student growth gains in literacy. The project improves reading comprehension by adopting the Amplify ELA curriculum and iReady Progress Monitoring programs. Students will be taught with a research based literacy curriculum focused on comprehension processes, language structures, and foundational skills.
