Anchors Away A Math and Reading Intervention Initiative

Abstract

Student achievement at Forrestal Elementary School and within D187 is our highest priority and the most important lever for overall district growth. North Chicago Community Unit School District 187 (D187) is committed to providing a supportive and challenging learning environment for all students, including those from military families. However, military connected students often face unique challenges that can impact their academic achievement, particularly in reading and math. Through this project, Anchors Away A Math and Reading Intervention Initiative, we will provide differentiated instruction, student specific interventions, and small group support in math and reading to our military connected students during the instructional day, as well as their time at home in order to continue to increase student achievement at Forrestal Elementary School. With these proposed supports, we are setting a goal of increasing student achievement in math and reading by 9 percents over 2023 data, as measured by the students reaching growth targets or exceeding growth targets. We will provide our students with continued access to in class curriculum ST Math and Lexia, coupled with continued at home practice with personal devices (Chromebooks), including specific Math and Reading support through a multi tiered system of support, and targeted intervention support.
