The Wandering Wonder Labs An Innovative Approach to PK8 STEM Learning
Abstract
The Wandering Wonder Labs are two state of the art mobile STEM labs that will travel throughout the Beavercreek City School District, delivering captivating hands on experiences directly to schools while boosting STEM teaching prowess from preschool through 8th grade. They will spark curiosity, ignite passion for STEM fields in military connected youth, and empower educators with training to elevate STEM instruction. Developed through a collaborative effort with community partners, these innovative labs will support high quality STEM student learning year round. They ll provide robust experiences focused on experiential learning, innovative science and math activities, technology instruction on cyber security, computational thinking, and digital fluency. The Wandering Wonder labs will travel weekly, visiting each school 8 to 10 times per year to ensure access for military students who transfer mid year. Professional development will equip classroom teachers to embed high quality STEM pedagogy, while each school s designated STEM Coach will receive deeper training to implement robust STEM strategies building wide. This approach will expand the grant s impact and improve student readiness for advanced STEM study and future STEM careers. By creating this system of STEM learning tailored to military connected students, the grant allows the district to lessen burdens of transitions between states and enhance preparedness for STEM fields. The combination of the Wandering Wonder Labs, STEM curriculum, specialized summer programs, educator training, and STEM Coaches will cultivate an enriching STEM environment and ensure a strong STEM foundation for students transitioning due to military moves.
