CLIMB Career Launch Innovation Moving Boundaries

Abstract

High School students across the nation struggle to find connections between their work in school and their dreams for after graduation. At O Fallon Township High School (OTHS), students rated the school as very weak on emphasizing the importance of high school for their future. OTHS Students indicated that their classes did not teach them valuable skills or prepare them for life. OTHS students also rated their teachers as weak on being innovative. Students indicated their teachers were not eager to try new ideas or take risks to improve the school. More OTHS students are foregoing college and entering directly into the workforce. Staff at OTHS see a clear need for students to develop a clear plan for after high school graduation and improve their skills with technology to support early entry into the workforce. Project Career Launch Innovation Moving Boundaries (CLIMB) will capitalize on innovative technology to develop students workforce skills and remove boundaries prohibiting students fulfilling their potential, helping them launch their careers. Project CLIMB will support students by integrating a Tech Flex Space for all staff to incorporate career planning and innovative technology into the curriculum. By exposing students to new technologies not typically accessible through the standard curriculum, Project CLIMB will increase student engagement and prepare students to enter the modem workforce.
