STEAM Powered Futures

Abstract

Silver Valley Unified School District proposes a hands on initiative called STEAM Powered Futures to provide rich learning experiences to equip military connected students with the mindset and skills they need to be future ready. This project will build on the foundation of previous DoDEA grants and leverage newly available state funds for arts education. Teachers will engage students with applied arts and technology opportunities tailored to each grade level. Each of these components aim to cultivate future ready learner characteristics like critical and innovative thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and effective communication. Through this project, SVUSD aims to ignite curiosity, empower students, and shape a future where they thrive academically and professionally. Located in a remote area in California’s Mojave Desert, SVUSD serves 74.1 percent military connected students from Fort Irwin National Training Center and the Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow.
