Edwards AFB/Branch-Forbes ES (SP)

Abstract

Public Schools on Military Installations Program - $1.2 million grant awarded to the MUROC Joint Unified School District (MJUSD), Edwards Air Force Base, California - MJUSD is currently working on a $1,203,480 pre-construction design only grant matched by $283,370 in non-federal funds to manage a $1,486,850 project for Irving L. Branch Elementary and Forbes Elementary Schools to refine project requirements and identify associated costs. This award enables the design phase of the project to move forward while the School District continues its efforts, in collaboration with the State of California, to finalize firm construction costs and secure matching funds for the construction phase of the project. This award will define construction requirements required to remedy capacity and facility condition deficiencies that placed Irving L. Branch and Forbes Elementary Schools as the eighth and thirty-second schools on the July 2011 Deputy Secretary of Defense "Public Schools on Military Installations Priority List." MJUSD currently owns the land on the Air Force Base for Irving L. Branch Elementary School, and will continue to own, operate, and maintain the newly built school on the same site. The pre-construction design only grant is expected to complete 30 June 2016. MJUSD is currently exploring additional alternatives to potentially re-scope the project based on constraints in securing matching funds while ensuring the scope remedies the capacity and facility condition deficiencies that placed the schools on the priority list. Irving L. Branch Elementary School serves 913 elementary school students grades K through 6.
