Abstract
The Defense Firm Diversification Grant has been a huge success here in South Carolina. The approved grant provided $902,000 which included the 10% state match from the South Carolina Department of Commerce of which $718,205 was allocated for Diversification Assistance for Defense Firms. As of 5/31/2015, 115 companies have been visited resulting in 13 companies being approved for Defense Firm Diversification Assistance providing training opportunities for 174 employees thus obligating $691,505.23 of the total grant amount awarded. In our initial proposal, we stated that we could serve 10 companies with the approved grant amount, however we successfully served 13. Of the 13 companies that have been approved for Defense Firm Diversification Assistance, results are pending as training is completed. Diversification assistance was provided to defense firms via a competitive contract process. South Carolina is requesting an additional $416,693.09 (federal) for line item 6(f) and with the Department of Commerce providing the non-federal match of $46,299.91 for line item 6(f) on Form 424A (Budget Information) which brings the grand total to $1,364,993 for line item 1(g).
