Commonwealth of Kentucky (DIA)

Abstract

Through grant funding from the Department of Defense Office for Economic Adjustment (OEA), Kentucky will conduct planning and take action to adjust to Department of the Army force structure reductions within the Commonwealth of Kentucky, specifically at Fort Knox and Fort Campbell. The potential for the Army to reverse recent force structure reductions is extremely low, given the budget constraints under which the Department of Defense is operating. It is therefore important that planning measures and specific proactive action be taken to replace, over time, the economic impact of the force structure that was eliminated within a 2 year period (FY13-15). The activities will include developing an aerospace & defense-related supply chain study and online mapping tool to determine economic impact, education, workforce and industry sector growth opportunities; study the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and cyber-security industries and determine how Kentucky and companies therein can best position to participate in this growing sector; update the standing study of the economic impact of the military in Kentucky and create an associated interactive web presence. The Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs (KCMA) will be responsible for overall project coordination and grant administration.
