Dyess AFB (JLUS)

Abstract

The City of Abilene will sponsor the Joint Land Use Study for Dyess Air Force Base and anticipates this study will take 12 months to complete. The study area includes land outside of Dyess-owned property, which lies within the jurisdictions of City of Abilene, City of Tye and Taylor County. These jurisdictions, along with Dyess officials, will participate on the JLUS Policy Committee. Private and commercial land owners that fall within the boundaries identified in Dyess’ current AICUZ will be invited to participate and comment throughout this study. The JLUS will accomplish the following through the major deliverables of a final report, implementation plan, and 4 page overview for public distribution: Prevent future incompatible development that may jeopardize the viability of the base mission; Develop recommendations to mitigate existing and future incompatible uses; Protect health, safety, and welfare of the surrounding communities; Enhance communications between the base and surrounding communities.
