Fort Monroe

Abstract

The Fort Monroe Authority (FMA) is utilizing federal grant assistance for operations and maintenance, redevelopment planning, and the overall adaptive reuse of historic structures at the former Fort Monroe, Virginia. Fort Monroe was officially deactivated by the U.S. Army in 2011 and the FMA has been working closely with various federal, state, and local stakeholders and officials on implementing the redevelopment plan and acquiring the remaining federal property from the U.S Army. This grant provides funding assistance primarily for operations, maintenance and contractual support. The FMA relies heavily on federal funding assistance from the Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment to help with the overall redevelopment efforts.
