Elmendorf-Richardson JB (Force Reduction)

Abstract

The Municipality of Anchorage seeks to identify and understand the regional economic impacts associated with the announced personnel reductions at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) and get organized to respond to the impacts. On July 9, 2015, the Army announced force structure reductions, resulting in the loss of 2,631 military personnel at JBER. This reduction, combined with other recent reductions, results in a total reduction of 3,017 personnel. JBER is located in the Municipality of Anchorage, AK. The primary goal of this initial phase is to adequately understand the potential economic impacts associated with the personnel reductions at JBER by performing an assessment of the economic impacts of personnel reductions to the region, including direct impacts as well as ancillary impacts. As a result of this effort, the Municipality of Anchorage will produce a Community Economic Impact Analysis.
