Allen County (DIA)

Abstract

This Allen County Defense Industry Adjustment (DIA) Project is funded through a partnership between the United States Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment and the Allen County Ohio Board of Commissioners. The First Phase of the defense community readjustment grant was precipitated by concerns regarding the workforce alignment and future of the Joint Forces Manufacturing Center (JSMC) – a unique government-owned, contractor-operated production facility responsible for most of the heavy-armored combat vehicles in the U.S. military’s inventory, including the Abrams line of combat tanks and the Stryker medium-combat vehicle family. This grant provides funding assistance primarily for personnel, operations, and contractual support. Allen County intends to create a comprehensive workforce response, closely examine and evaluate the regional economy, and develop and implement a strategic plan. The county will build on the existing data and related successes of phase I while carrying out the Defensive Industry Adjustment project and comprehensive regional workforce strategy under phase II.
