Patuxent River NAS (JLUS)

Abstract

Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland (TCCSMD), seeks an implementation grant to continue the momentum established by the NAS PAX Joint Land Use Study (JLUS), completed in January 2015 under the TCCSMD, to carry out the JLUS recommendations with the affected twelve jurisdictions and NAS PAX River. The recently completed JLUS assessed compatibility factors relative to sustaining the federal and state mission at NAS PAX River and balancing the continued growth that is occurring within Southern Maryland, the Maryland Eastern Shore and Northern neck of Virginia. The JLUS identified numerous strategies between the base and the twelve local jurisdictions that would foster compatible land uses between the military and community activities. The TCCSMD Project Manager, will be responsible for overall coordination of outreach efforts, and for working with the affected jurisdictions to ensure proposed land use changes and mission-supporting regulations are incorporated into local Comprehensive Plans and land development ordinances to the maximum extent possible. The goal is to achieve maximum community buy-in before proposed land use changes go to final approval, and to attain maximum implementation of the recommendations provided in the NAS PAX JLUS. The total cost of NAS PAX Joint Land Use Study Implementation Grant is $34,011, of which $30,002 is requested from the Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA). The remainder of the funds ($4,009) will be non-federal in-kind match funds provided by Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland.
