Fort Knox (Force Reduction)

Abstract

Recent cuts by the Department of Defense resulted in a loss of nearly 2,280 positions at Fort Knox, including the inactivation of the 3/1 Brigade Combat Team and U.S. Army Accessions Command. While some gains have come with new training for Army ROTC cadets, the net loss of permanent party personnel remains significant and the installation faces the potential of additional cuts that would further negate any economic growth. Grant funds will allow the region to address economic diversification through analysis, planning and implementation activities. These activities/products include an impact analysis from a geographic and industry sector perspective, an economic diversification plan addressing those same industry sectors, and diversification implementation efforts to include outreach tools. The project is expected to take 12 months from grant award.
