Fort Worth NAS JRB (JLUS)
Abstract
The North Central Texas Regional Joint Land Use Study will focus on promoting compatible community growth around the regional military facilities to preserve military operational capabilities. The study is an update to the 2008 Naval Air Station Fort Worth, Joint Reserve Base (NAS Fort Worth, JRB) Joint Land Use Study, with an expanded study area to include all major military training facilities in the North Central Texas region - NAS Fort Worth, JRB, Dallas Army Aviation Support Facility, Fort Wolters, Camp Maxey, Eagle Mountain Training Center, and Colonel Stone Army Reserve Center. The overall goals of the study are to identify recommended actions to minimize encroachment of urban development upon military operations, identify and mitigate potential flight obstructions, and create formal, long-term relationships among the installations and communities to support both continued military operations and community development. Project deliverables include model ordinances related to airport overlay zoning and siting of potential flight obstructions, analysis of urban development pressures, framework for formal military-community outreach, and recommendations for state legislative changes to promote compatible community development. The North Central Texas Council of Governments is serving as the sponsor for the 18-month study and facilitating partner coordination throughout the region.
