Redstone Arsenal (JLUS)

Abstract

The City of Huntsville is serving as the study sponsor for the Redstone Arsenal Joint Land Use Study (JLUS). The JLUS represents a community-driven, strategic planning process among Redstone Arsenal; the surrounding local jurisdictions (the City of Huntsville, the City of Madison, the Town of Triana, Madison County, Marshall County, Morgan County); and the State of Alabama. The goal of the JLUS is to encourage local governments, together with the State, to work closely with the military installation to: Implement measures that prevent the introduction of incompatible civilian development that may impair the continued operational utility of the military installation; Preserve and protect the public health, safety, and welfare of those living near the installation; Increase public awareness of the military missions and contribution to the regional economy; and Foster continued communication among Redstone Arsenal and the surrounding communities to address compatibility issues.
